Annotations for The Whole Earth Catalogs: Intro Page

Page history last edited by Katherine Pandora 5 years, 6 months ago

:: This opening section has information about how you will post your contribution to our class research project using the Whole Earth Catalogs and the other course materials to explore attitudes about information technology and society during the period when the personal computer was created and became popular.

:: These are the source materials you will using in putting together your posts:

1. The practice worksheet you filled out when you looked over the entries by the Spr 2013 students (links at the right).

2. The 3-question worksheet you filled out in-class on 10.11 (Question #1 goes into the "Items from the 1970 WEC" page.

3. The worksheet (the one with 6 questions) you filled out using the items you personally selected from the in-class work session on 10.11.

4. Any of the readings (scanned at our canvas.ou.edu site)

5. Information from working with the Internet to find out information about the items you are working with.

:: How to access the pages you will be posting on:

1. To add your comments to the "Items from the 1970 WEC" (the photocopied pages we all looked at): click on that link to the right.

2. To set up your individual composition space (page) follow these instructions:

Procedure

  • Select one of the still open pages listed at the right to use for your contribution. Once you claim it be sure to give it a new title: to the right at the top, where it says "Tools", click on the "Rename" link. It will change the screen so that the current name is placed in a box that you can use to change the name. Don't forget to SAVE after you are done. (You can change this first re-named title later if you wish).

  • Go to the now re-named page to add your post. Remember to click the EDIT button at the top of the screen, which turns the page into a word processor-like screen. Don't forget to SAVE your work [button on the bottom left].

  • You can come back and edit your contribution at any time.

  • That's it!
